Product Use and Care

Spoonful of Comfort packages are all about taking care of the person who receives them. Here are a few tips in return about taking care of what comes inside the box.

Freshness Guarantee

Everything from our kitchen is packed to withstand 3 days in transit. Our soups are “blast frozen” to lock in freshness and prepare for their journey. We wrap each container in a proprietary insulated liner with gel ice packs to keep it food safe for up to 3 days.

When There’s a Shipping Delay

When severe weather events occur, we continue to ship our packages while communicating daily with UPS. Together, we determine what shipping options are feasible (for example, we won’t offer overnight shipping when weather will prevent that delivery).

Please know that Mother Nature can still surprise us. Even if your shipping destination is not impacted by the weather, other hubs and transit routes may affect the overall network. Our 3-day Freshness Guarantee was created for unanticipated slow-downs.

You will get a shipping number to track your package’s arrival (and we’re watching it, too!). In the unlikely event that it does not arrive within our freshness window, please contact Customer Support for a refund or replacement order.

Soup Packages

Spoonful of Comfort Soups and Mac n' Cheese

  • Upon receipt, remove from the silver mylar pouch. Freeze for up to 2 months, refrigerate for up to 5 days, or prepare immediately.
  • If your containers are frozen, let them thaw in the refrigerator for 1-2 days, or immerse the container in cool water for 30-40 minutes. You may also defrost in the microwave. Start by microwaving for 2-3 minutes on defrost setting, then in 30-second increments until fully thawed. These methods are considered safe by the USDA.
  • To heat, gently pour desired amount into a saucepan (1-2 cups per serving). Warm on medium heat until heated through, stirring (and maybe tasting!) occasionally.
  • To microwave, pour desired amount into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high, loosely covered, for 1-2 minutes. Stir and carefully test temperature. If needed, microwave in 30-second increments until fully heated through.
  • The USDA recommends heating soup to 165 degrees for safe consumption.
  • Refrigerate any leftovers. If you want to save some of your soup or mac n' cheese for later, you can safely refreeze a portion of it. The USDA recommends that thawed food be refrozen within 3-4 days.

Spoonful of Comfort Rolls and Cookies

  • Rolls and/or cookies are ready to eat!
  • If you wish, remove from packaging and heat in 350° oven for 5 mins, or until warmed.
  • A little butter to top the rolls never hurts!

Packaging – Spoonful of Comfort Boxes

Pie Packages

  • Upon receipt of your pie, please refrigerate immediately, and bake within 3 days of delivery or store the uncooked pie in the freezer for up to six months.
  • Once baked and cooled, the patterned blue box can be used as a serving tray!

Baking Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Remove the pie from fresh-seal plastic lining and remove the parchment paper from the fruit topping. Your pie has an outer pie tin for extra sturdiness. You can bake using both tins, or remove the outer tin if you prefer the bottom crust more toasted.
  • Sprinkle the streusel topping over the pie and bake until fruit filling is bubbling and the streusel topping golden brown (baking times vary by oven.)
  • Cool pie for 20 minutes or more to allow filling to set for easier cutting. Enjoy!
